I can't fix a redirect loop error I have.

When I change the permalinks back to their original post_id option, there is no redirect loop. But I need the permalinks changed.

When I deactivate all my plugins, I get no redirect loop but I get a 404 error.

I have tried the canonical plugin and the permalink migration one. I also tried the other redirect plugin too. Nothing seems to work. Do I really have to do a fresh install just to see posts? The main page works fine. It is clicking on individual links that will not work.

Yes, did that. I even changed it from the one that is auto-generated to one that works fine for another blog. It's random these errors. They are on some blogs but not others and I cannot figure out why. I am just going to change hosting. Hostgator gives me no problems at all with blog installs. This host on the other hand is murder.

if I understand your problem the right way,I find this normal.
so if you are going to example.com/postid.php and get eror it's natural.
you must go to settings > permalinks and enter this in the custom field:
/%category%/%postname%.html as this will make your post like this: example.com/category/postid.php

so I should add the .html at the end is what you are saying? Because I have changed my permalinks, that's easy. And checked my htaccess pages, but it is so random this happens on some hosts and not others. But you are saying that if I add the .html to the end of whatever permalinks I choose, it will work? I will have to find a site that I was having this issue on and try it out. I reverted back to the standard permalinks in the mean time.
